Welcome to Room 11 --3rd grade

Goals for this year:

  • Organizational skills
  • Homework every day because students need to take an active interest in their own learning.
  • Independent learning: students need to take on the responsibility of their own learning.
  • Students will know what grades they have earned at any given time. They need to take the responsibility for the grades they have earned.
  • Word processing skills: typing 10+ words per minute, saving documents, and power point programs for Fairy Tale.
  • Monthly book reports/report wheel/different types of writing/science fiction, fiction, realistic fiction, biographies, poetry, mystery, and so on.

Academic Expectations:

  • Effort is the most important aspect of learning. A student can be brilliant, but if they don't show effort they will miss out.
  • N.E.D.
  • Students will be graded on a standard A, B, C, D, F scale. In middle school, the students will be graded by this scale as 4, 3, 2, 1 isn't a very effective way to show students their success level. A (3) can range from 70% to 95% and they are proficient.
  • The students need to know just what grades they have earned.
  • Students will be required to retake core subject tests when they receive a C- or lower grade. The goal is to become proficient/advance with their subject matter.

Behavioral Expectations:

  • Students need to pay attention when anyone is addressing the class.Students need to raise their hands to be called on to add to the discussions or to ask questions.
